The Adelphi Community Band
The Adelphi Community Band Started playing at the Pumpkin Show in 1925. This year will be the 83rd appearance of the Adelphi Band. They march in various parades and play concerts. For many years they played for the various “Free Acts” during the Pumpkin Show. This included Aerial Trapeze Acts, High Dive into a Tank Act, Horizontal Bars and other acts. They played music to fit each act. The “Free Acts” were located in front of the Court House, at West Main & Scioto Street and N. Court & High Street.
In recent years the Band has been in the Friday and Saturday night parades and plays a concert on East Franklin Street on Saturday night.
The Adelphi Community Band was organized in 1880 to play in parades, festivals, homecomings, fish fries and concerts in various parks. The band members come from a 4-5 county area. Rehearsals are held in the Band Hall in Hallsville on many Monday nights. There has been 14 different Band Directors in this 126 year period of time. Mr. John Brown is the current Director and Mr. Glenn Hinton is the Band Manager. The Adelphi Community Band makes about 25 appearances each year in Southeast Ohio Area.
