Linda K. Morris, 16, Westfall High School junior- Linda is the daughter
of Denny and Kathy Morris of Mount Sterling.
Morris described her activities in the form of a poem:
I like to be busy, yes, I do,
I run cross country. In spring, track too.
Of the junior class I'm president,
To do well is my intent.
In Monroe 4-H club I hold the same,
Youth fellowship too, President's my name.
Teen library council at my local 'libe',
And in 4-H Teen leadership, I am a guide.
I'm getting involved with Fashion Board,
To Yearbook staff bits of time I afford.
I love doing my part in Color Guard,
You'd think it's easy but, it's actually hard.
Swing choir's great, just to sing and dance,
Along with school musical to give my acting a chance.
I'm a member, proud, of the Christian Athletes,
And I'd loudly proclaim all the Pumpkin Show treats.
After high school she plans to attend Miami University or Wright State
for an undergraduate degree in acting, followed by an acting career in
New York or California.
If she could invite anyone to Circleville Pumpkin Show it would be her
close friend, Nikki Cox. She attends a school district that does not
cancel classes for this huge event. She's heard of the Pumpkin Show but,
she's never been there. "With Nikki, I could be myself and in our
child-like spirit enjoy all the novelties of the show," she said.
"Hurrying from one display to a booth, to the next booth to another
display we could marvel at the assortment of pumpkin items." Morris
thinks it would a great time to put aside their worries and be with a
person she hasn't seen for a long time to socialize. "Nikki and I could
have such a fun time, I mean, everyone knows the word 'bored' doesn't
exist at the Pumpkin Show."
When Morris was about seven, her mom took her to the Pumpkin Show and
she parked in an alley near a huge pile of raked leaves beside a tree
between two carved pumpkins. When she opened the door, with the fall
season atmosphere and Pumpkin Show smells, Morris plunged into the
gigantic pile. Her mother kicked the leaves around with her for a bit
and Linda was so happy to be mixed in with all those scented, crumbled
leaves. Morris said she felt so free and so alive just sitting there.
"Maybe I can't explain it as well as I felt it," she said. "We hadn't
really gone to the Pumpkin Show yet and I was already having a blast."
